Micro-programmed Control

Control Memory means a memory in which control signals are stored. Control signals are in the form of micro-operations. Number of control signals in a given system is finite.
When control signal are generated by hardware then they are called hard-wired control signal. Control memory contains within it a micro-instruction. The micro-instruction constitutes a micro-program. Since alterations of the micro-program are not needed once the control unit is in operation. Therefore, the control memory can be read-only memory (RAM).

A computer that use a micro-programmed control unit has two type of memories :

1. Main Memory

2. Control Memory

Main Memory:--
The main memory is used to storing the programs written by the programmer. The contents of main memory  may be changed when program is executed or when some another program is stored in it.

Control Memory:---
The control memory contains the micro-programs which are fixed and not changed by the user .
